Jinx shows at “I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight” art show at the Cactus Gallery this month!

I’ll be showing a few small paintings in this show. All heart related and very affordable.

This opening is TONIGHT!

We look forward to seeing you this Saturday, February 11, from 7-10pm for the Opening Reception for “I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight,” Cactus Gallery’s Love themed exhibit. In conjunction with NELAart.org‘s Second Saturday Gallery Night.
The show runs from February 11 to March 6, 2012. The heart is the CORE of one’s being and love seems to be universally depicted with the symbol of a heart. This group show features original work that depicts love and most pieces incorporate a heart – whether anatomically or symbolically. You will find acrylics and oils on canvas and wood, ceramics, paper mache, watercolors, pen and ink drawings, mosaic, felt dolls, assemblage, custom wood cuts, embroidery and many mixed media works.

If you have a question regarding availability of work, please contact Sandra @ semastroianni70@yahoo.com or 323.256.6117

Local Art LA interviews Jinx

A few weeks ago I was interviewed by Andrew Ferraro from LocalArtLA.com.  Local Art L.A. is an online community of artists established by local artists, for local artists. Their mission is to promote the recognition, proliferation and progression of local Los Angeles art talent through the establishment of a free, recognized, interactive repository for art.

Here is a preview of the interview:

“I’m more aware now of what the market wants,” says long time artist Jinx. It’s taken many years but Jinx is now focused on a major project that has the elements she hopes will make her work and talent attractive to the marketplace.

The new body of work that Jinx is currently developing represents what a lot of artists are tuned in to. A full portfolio that reflects a focused theme is something an artist can go to galleries with.

After a career in art that began when she was a child she has more recently been able to focus her ideas for more effect. “In school they don’t teach you what the market wants,” she says. “Nothing about the art business at all.” But Jinx has keen thoughts about the local Los Angeles art market. She points out that $20 prints are more sellable than something going for $500.

Evil Bunny Art Show at The Land of Odd Gallery in June!

Come see the Evil Bunny show at The Land of Odd Gallery. 3 other artists and I will be filling up the back gallery space with creepy, twisted, evil bunny art for everyone to enjoy. This is the first time I’m involved in organizing an art show. I’m very excited about this one. The other artists (Missy FeigumSheri DeBow, and Carisa Swenson) are all from San Francisco so I was the designated organizer for this one. There is also a photography show in the main gallery.

Super busy art month! Working on new paintings and weekly clown update

This has turned out to be a busy month! I am still working on my clown portrait plus I have 2 more shows I need to make paintings for. One is at The Hive for their video game themed group show in June. The other is for a scary bunny show at The Land of Odd Gallery. 3 other artists (Missy FeigumSheri DeBow, and Carisa Swenson) and myself will have the back gallery space to fill with creepy bunny artwork.

Clown Update

Yesterday I was able to get a bit of painting done, which is always nice. I worked on getting the lines down on the right leg black fishnets. Here is the before shot.

Here is what I got accomplished in the 4 hours I was there. I also slightly fixed the left leg fishnets. Much more needs to be done.

Full view so far. I think next week I’ll wander to another part of the canvas. Maybe back into the hair…

More Clown work and set up at The Rebel Unit

I left for The Hive earlier than usual today. I needed to get there and paint so I could leave early and go set up some work at The Rebel Unit in Santa Ana.

I lightened the lower stomach area to match what I had done last week. Then I turned my attention towards the right arm warmer.

I darkened the darks and went over the blues to make the color more solid. I ran out of time to finish the blues! Sigh…until next week.

I left The Hive at 6pm to sit in traffic for an hour and a half so I could get to The Rebel Unit and set up my work for this Saturdays show.

Tah Dah!
